ALL OF THE LOADS BELOW SHOULD BE CONSIDERED
AS ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM IN MY BARREL AND VERY WELL COULD BE ABOVE MAXIMUM IN YOUR BARREL. DO NOT START AT THESE LOADS!!!!! REDUCE ALL LOADS BELOW BY 10% TO 15% AND WORK UP TO THEM CAREFULLY FOLLOWING ALL APPROPRIATE SAFETY MEASURES. DO NOT LOAD AMMO UNLESS YOU ARE A KNOWLEDGEABLE RELOADER AND HAVE READ THE REFERENCE SECTION IN AT LEAST ONE COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE RELOADING MANUAL. RP 30-30 Reformed
BULLET: Sierra 130 SSP #7250
POWDER: AA 2520-35.0 Grains
PRIMER: Winchester LR
This was my deer hunting load for the 1992-93 hunting season. During test on 11-1-92 I fired a 100 yard 5-shot group measuring 1-7/8" using a Leupold 2x scope-not great but good enough for the conditions under which it was fired. I conducted another test on 6-6-93 under better conditions and fired the following: 3-shots at 100 yards into 1.55" and 3-shots at 250 yards into 2.01". This load has worked well in my barrel.
CASE: RP 30-30 Reformed
BULLET: Hornady 120 SSP #2811
POWDER: AA 2520-36.0 Grains
PRIMER: Winchester LR
This load has always proved to be exceptionally accurate in my barrel.During a test on 6-6-93 I fired a 3-shot group at 100 yards that measured 1.05" and another 3-shot group at 250 yards that measured only 1.52". My velocity with this load is 2375 fps as tested on 9-26-96. This is another excellent load in my 14" barrel.
CASE:RP 30-30 Reformed
BULLET: Nosler 120 BT
POWDER: AA 2520-35.0 Grains
PRIMER: Winchester LR
This was my hunting load during the 1993-94 deer hunting season. During a test run on it on 8-11-97 I fired a 3-shot group at 100 yards measuring 0.85" at 2470 fps with a Sd of 10.6. It is consistent and accurate-one of my favorites for this caliber. This load is absolute max in my barrel and flattens primers every time.
CASE: FC 7x30
BULLET: Hornady 139 SP #2820
POWDER: W 748-34.0 Grains
PRIMER: Winchester LR
This has proved to be a good load for me for times when the heavier bullet is desired. I don't generally use a bullet this heavy however. Velocity was tested on 7-26-97 at 2125 fps. This load was tested again on 8-4-97. The 3-shot 100 yard group was 1.4" and the velocity was 2099 fps. This
was a different lot of ammunition but same components as before.
CASE: RP 30-30 Reformed
BULLET: Nosler 140 BT
POWDER: AA XMR 2495-33.0 Grains
PRIMER: Winchester LR
This is the best load I have found using this bullet in my barrel. Velocity is 2193 fps with an Sd of 21.3 and 3-shot groups at 100 yards usually run about 1.2". These tests were conducted on 7-26-97. OAL was 2.800".
CASE: FC 7x30
BULLET: Sierra 130 SSP #7250
POWDER: W748-36.0
PRIMER: CCI 200
This has now become my standard load in my barrel for all of my hunting in this caliber. It has been tested numerous times both at the range and in the field. It is the load I used in Florida for the
fallow deer and hog hunt and both animals went down on the spot with a single shot. Accuracy testing on 8-10-97 and 8-11-97 gave 3-shot 100 yard groups of 0.80" , 1.0" and 0.80" for a 3 group average of 0.87". Velocity is 2260 fps in my barrel. I have lost count of the number of 100 yard groups
fired on paper with this load but the largest ever turned yet was 1.5" and it will run 1.0" and under most of the time. In my barrel this load exhibits no excessive pressure signs but I still recommend treating it as max and working up from below. That should be standard practice for all loads. I LIKE THIS ONE.
CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!!
