Rick's Version Of the GGGH

By: Rick Brown

Folks,
I've put this off long enough, now is the time that the Truth Comes out. It was really an
Experiment, GB and JR were the fellows that , I got to try this on. I work for Ga. Tech and
Experimentation is what I do for a living, (just not on People).
I had an idea a while back that the Internet is a great place to find people of the same ilk , and
get into some good discussions about common interests. But what if some of the Experts were
put to the Test? Would they take the challenge, Hunt in a place and a way that was very
different for them? Could total strangers, with only a couple of things in common, guns and love
of hunting , put up with each other for a week (Really 9 Days)? How would differences be handled,
resolved ?

As I had met GB before and he had a trip to camp , to get the lay of the land, JR was at a
disadvantage , but still the main part of the Hunt could go forward. The trials were not all of my
making, and some were better than anything I could have dreamed up. (Thanks, JR). The week has
been described by both of these Gentlemen, with very good recollection, and stand on their own
merits. We talked about our differing methods and likes and dislikes at the campfires, and in
general we all adapted to each other, quite well. As GB was the only one that wasn't Military , the
sleeping arrangements, and Chow would be the hard parts for him. For JR the confines of hunting
where you can't see 50 yards and trying to sit in a stand, would be his trial. As they have related, all
went well, GB's ear plugs, at night, and catching me both times I tried to slip Deer meat into the
menu, were caught , without fail. He was Very forgiving, of my tries and put up with me and my
nonsense , like a real Trooper. JR got frustrated at first, after missing the big Deer, but then
settled into the routine of Southern Deer Camp life, like he'd been doing it forever.

The weather was the only Fly in the ointment, I was hoping to find out what would happen when
they got deer (GB did) and would have to make arrangements to get it Home. That wasn't to be.
Over a long hunt you have to make arrangements with a processor, and the one we had been
using Closed just before season, glad I didn't have to find another one (We did ,to get
confirmation that the deer GB shot was Sick and shouldn't be eaten). In all the week went very well.

The test was; Could 3 people from different backgrounds and hunting styles, make a hunt of it:
Answer , Yes they can.

These two Gentlemen, showed the best that can happen, when people of like minds get
together to share something they all love. A 9 day hunt that is hard on good friends, by the end
of it. This hunt was still a good learning experience , for all of us ,till the last day. We shared
"Stories" and thoughts , that most folks wouldn't tell family. We had a lot of fun laughing at silly
stuff at camp, and very quiet times at Andersonville. The folks that are trying to take away our
hunting and the guns , should read this account and ponder: "If 3 strangers can get together and
do this for an extended period of time, What would happen if all the Hunters (Young and Old) ever
got their act together and used the Deer Camp mentality, against us ?"

We all have a common interest, be it Gun's ,Hunting, or just being in the outdoors, And What
would happen if we all got together ? With one Purpose: To Save and continue what we love?
That time is coming fast and it's up to all of us to use this Speed Mail/Talk Forums to spread the
word, WE ARE A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH. We can join together , using the Internet,
to Find and contact each other. We do have a common purpose, and will go thru hardships, to
follow that purpose.

My Thanks to Graybeard and jungleRat, for putting up with me for a week plus and I hope they
had a good time trying to find the South Ga. White Tail Deer. They are always Welcome at my
Camp and Campfire. Folk's, these are Good True Sportsmen , with a real love of the out of doors ,
and They Speak Straight (with some Embellishment), and They make fine hunting partners, and
great foe's to those who would take this kind of Adventure from us.
I know this isn't what you were expecting, but it's my Real Reason for trying this , the first time,
with these guy's. Next time ,maybe we need to get the Whole Gang together for a Shooting
Match/Hunting Trip. After this trip, I can survive most anything.

Good Hunting; Good Friendships, to All,

Rick B.
