For many years I've looking longingly at the rests made by Fred Sinclair and others of the ilk but just wasn't sure if I could justify the expense of one. I always wondered if having one of them would really improve the shooting platform enough to make a real difference. Well I wonder no more. Fred found my site and I noticed him posting on my HandLoading Forum and as a result I began a dialogue with him that ended with him shipping me one of his Model #04-2610 rests for Product Testing. Based on our conversations we determined I really didn't need the adjustable forend stop so that was left off. So I now have been using this rest for my bench shooting for several months, in fact for all of the summer and fall of 2001 while testing rifles and handguns. Oh yeah it's worth the money folks. It really does provide a far more stable and adjustable front rest for your rifle or handgun.
Quality of materials and workmanship of this rest are excellent. It is adjustable in about every direction one could ask for. Sinclair offers a variety of different shooting rest models designed to fit the differing needs of shooters in various disciplines. You're bound to find a model in their inventory to match your needs. Combine it with a quality rear rest bag also available from Sinclair International and you'll have the makings of a stable shooting platform that will improve your groups if you are shooting from a stable bench. Even if you mostly shoot from a car or truck hood a quality front and rear rest will aid your shooting by providing a solid and stabile rest.
For years I've been "getting by" using cheap and light weight rests made by other makers who primarily appeal to the masses and by using a variety of home made sand bags to hold the rifles and handguns while shooting. While I've found sandbags alone can do a pretty fair job, definitely better than cheap light weight rests commonly used by many, they are no substitute for a good solid front rest like the ones offered by Sinclair. I suspected this all along but until actually trying one I could only guess how much it would improve my shooting. It has sure made it far easier to get consistent small groups rather than occasional small groups. Now I know when the group isn't what I want it to be that it wasn't the rest that opened them up and can concentrate on finding the right load for the gun.
The Sinclair International Rest #04-2610 gets the Graybeard Seal of Approval for excellence in workmanship and materials and for helping me to shoot smaller groups. I give it a big thumbs up
and recommend them highly to all of you. If you've been using some cheaper light weight front rest or just sand bags or rolled up piece of carpet or sleeping bags or some other such combination as I've seen so many do then try a Sinclair front rest and find out just what you and your gun is really capable of doing. Did I mention I like it?
