Hornady STUCK CASE REMOVER Now of course you all realize that my review of this one would have to be "theorical only" becuz ya know the old graybearded one with all of his years of experience reloading would NEVER stick a case now would he? Hmm, why ya say ya don't believe that? Well OK, maybe once? Ya think even more huh? Well I ain't telling, nope not me. Any how Michelle at Hornady was nice enough to send me one of these out recently for a Product Test in response to an e-mail request SUBJECT: Help!!!!! hee...hee...hee. Yeah I let a 6 TCU case get stuck in the Hornady sizer die because I hadn't put quite as much lube on it as I thought I had. Well heck it "looked" like enough and it "felt" like
enough. But alas it "wasn't" enough. Result case stuck and
boy was it stuck! Once the Hornady Stuck Case Remover arrived I opened up the box and read the simple instructions. Hmmm, I can do that I says to myself. Using my drill press and the supplied drill bit I drilled out the primer pocket hole. I think used the supplied tap to tap threads in the hole I just had drilled. Next I inserted the shell holder with threaded screw into place in the Hornady Classic Lock-n-Load Press. I then put the sizer die with stuck case back in the press and lowered it down to where I could screw the threaded screw into the hole I had drilled and tapped and removed the stuck case. Well with a lot of effort as it was "really" stuck in there. Having it saved the die as getting it out by force without a stuck case remover can result in a ruined die. Yeah been there done that once many years ago but luckily the die maker was understanding and fixed it at no charge. Since it wasn't a Hornady Die that time we'll fore go the name for now since this is a review of a Hornady Product. If you haven't yet stuck a case in a sizer die your time is coming. You can either get the stuck case remover BEFORE you do it and be ready or afterward and wait for it to arrrive like I did. I suggest having one ready when it happens because happen it will eventually. They aren't expensive and are a life saver when you make that boo-boo. I give the Hornady Stuck Case Remover a thumbs up Seal of Approval for saving my bacon this time and if it happens again then I'll be ready and won't have to wait for it to get here to use the die again. Visit the Hornady website by clicking on the name. |
