| Description of Product | |
| Hornady provided me with several boxes of their component bullets for reloading and testing in the two
.454 Casull revolvers I have under tests as well as 6 MM bullets for testing in the TC Custom Shop 6 MM TCU barrel I’m testing. Specific group sizes will be addressed in the Test Reports on the guns/barrels rather than here. I was provided a good sample of the Hornady 240 XTP and 300 XTP .452” bullets intended for use in the .454 Casull and other Magnum .45 Caliber handguns. These proved to be right at the top of the heap in accuracy. I haven’t tested them on game in the .454 Casull yet but I’ll remedy that this fall. I have used Hornady handgun bullets since well before the introduction of the XTP line and since. I have always been pleased with the on game performance of Hornady bullets. They provide an outstanding combination of accuracy and game killing performance. Whether the quarry was varmints or deer or hogs or whatever they have always given me satisfactory performance in the game. I’m confident these .454” bullets will prove the same this fall.
I was provided samples of the 6MM V-Max Bullets in both 58 and 65 grain weights. While I’ve not completed all the testing of the barrel yet the 65 grain V-Max has proved to be super accurate in that barrel and so far I’ve found nothing to match much less beat it. My barrel doesn’t seem to like the under 65 grain bullets or at least so far I’ve not found the magic combination for any of them to include the 58 V-Max. I’ll try them in the Ruger #1 in 6 MM Remington also and see if it likes them better than the 6 TCU. The factory puts some really long throats on the 6 TCU barrels and the jump to the rifling is just too great in my test barrel for the lighter bullets. From my experience and that of others I’ve spoken with the TC barrels seem to prefer bullets in the 65 to 75 grain range so I’m concentrating my efforts there.
Both the 6 MM V-Max and the .452” 240 and 300 XTP bullets get the Graybeard Seal of Approval excellence in performance. Both on target where I’ve tested them at length and on game in my testing of other XTP bullets and on the varmints I’ve shot so far with the 6 TCU. Hornady offers an excellent bullet at a very attractive price. Try them and you’ll like them I’ll bet.
