Description of Product
Combining advanced fiber optics technology and state-of-the art electronics with superior conventional optics, the Micro Dot is the most sophisticated red dot scope on the market.

One day awhile back JD Jones of SSK Industries and I were chating on the phone as we sometimes do. Dunno why but JD asked me if I ever did any rifle hunting. I allowed as how yeah I did on occasion even tho I mostly used hanguns. He preceeded to tell me about the products distributed by Tom Roach of Ultra Dot Distribution. They distribute the Ultra Dot like of Red Dot scopes as well as the Micro Dot like of conventional rifle and handgun scopes. JD told me he is really happy with the Ultra Dot Red Dot sights and rates them the best on the market. Says the scopes are mighty fine also and asked me if I'd like to test one. I allowed as how I thought I'd like that so he contacted Tom Roach the President of Ultra Dot Distribution in my behalf. A while later I received a phone call from Tom and we made arrangements for him to send me a rifle scope for testing.

So that brings us to the subject of this review a MicroDot 2 - 7 x32mm Rifle Scope. I recieved the scope early in 2001 but after hunting season had closed here in Alabama so no local hunting opportunities to test it were available. As luck would have it we did have a hog hunt planned for March however at the Reed Wildlife Ranch in TX. Faye and I attended the Big Hog Outing (BHO) #2 hosted by Jim Reed the ranch owner. Faye's rifle had already been set up with another scope I was also testing and so I put the Micro Dot scope on my rifle I was to use in backing her up should such be needed. The hunting was to take place at night over feeder so I felt this would really be a good test of a scope designed for use in low light situations. Unfortunately the Trinity River didn't cooperate and was out of banks and covered all of the low land areas of Jim's ranch up until about two days before we arrived. Needless to say that was one muddy mess and it had disrupted the hog activity. We still had a good time but no opportunity for shooting. I did have a chance however to use the Micro Dot scope to look around and see how it could have performed had it been called on to do so. It seemed to work well. Even tho I couldn't always see the cross hair the little red dot positioned directly on the intersection of the cross hairs was always readily visiible and gave me confidence I could make a shot had one been presented.

So with hunting season a long way off for me and no shooting on the hog hunting trip I settled in for a long wait until it got tried on game. I took advantage of that time to move the scope around from rifle to rifle a bit and shoot it on the target range and to see in general how it performed. It performed right well thank you. The optics are bright and clear and the adjustments are positive and repeatable. That's the way a scope should perform and this one has. In all cases on several guns there has been plenty of adjustment to easily sight in and once adjusted it hasn't moved. Each click moves the POI just as the directions says it will and I've noticed no back lash in the adjustments.

I like this scope and I especially like that little dot of light right in the middle of the cross hairs. It isn't too bright as with some lighting systems so it doesn't over power your vision in dim light. As I said it was even usable on a cloudy moonless night in Texas back in March. With this scope or the others in the Micro Dot line up you'll not find that you have to quit because you can't see to shoot during any legal shooting hours. It has a 48.2' FOV at 2X for quick shots up close in thick cover and a 13.8' FOV at 7X for those times when more magnification is needed. While for me this power range is ideal for use in most all the hunting I do and I'm not a fan of the huge objective or high powered scopes on hunting guns Micro Dot has a variety of models to chose from so there should be one to suit the tastes of most anyone. In addition to the 2-7x32mm tested they offer a 1.5-4.5x20mm, a 3-9x40mm and a 4-12x56mm for times when a lot of power and huge objective are called for. They also offer a 1.5-4.5x20mm handgun scope.

If your hunting includes a lot of real low light conditions such as deep dark forest early in the morning and late in the afternoon, or night hunting where legal or perhaps fog and mist and over cast days then the Micro Dot line of scopes just might be a perfect answer to your needs for a scope you can use no matter how poor the lighting. It has definitely found a home with us. As I write this my oldest son Bobby has appropriated it for awhile for use on his mother's shotgun (which he has also appropriated) for deer hunting on a local National Guard training range he hunts that requires shotguns only. So it continues to serve my family well and will for quite some while no doubt.

The Micro Dot scope line as tested in this case in the 2-7x32mm gets the Graybeard Seal of Approval and a big thumbs up for excellence during a almost year long period of testing.

Visit the Ultra Dot/Micro Dot web site by clicking on the name to see the entire line up of Micro Dot scopes and Ultra Dot Red Dot sights. Just as JD told me they would be I found their products to be of excellent quality and Tom is a nice guy to deal with.
