| Graybeard's Handgun Scopes Page LEUPOLD: I feel they are simply the best on the market and their warranty is as good as gold. You can never go wrong with Leupold. I have both the 2X LER and 4X LER. I haven't yet tried the 2.5 x 8 because that with power range I want an adjustable objective. The ones I have looked at suffered from a lot of parallax and in MY OPINION were not up the normal Leupold quality standard. The 2X has the widest field of view of any handgun scope I have tried and is my choice for use on revolvers for hunting. Burris: I have owned only one Burris scope-a 5 X that I used on several handguns and found it to be excellent. I am sorry that I don't still have it and my friend who talked me out of it feels the same since he let someone else talk him out of it. I believe the Burris 3 x 9 AO or maybe the new 3x12 AO might be the best choice for a varmint/target handgun scope available. The 2x7 has the same (21 foot) field of view as the 2x Leupold when set to 2x. This scope is an excellent choice for use on single shot handguns. Bushnell Trophy: When I first added this section I stated that I had heard little good of this scope on the internet but that has now changed. Since I started posting of my success with them I've seen nothing but positive comments about them and I've seen lots of those. I put one on my 629 DX when I bought the revolver and left it there for a long time. I finally took it off after dropping the gun from the holster one day as I was getting out of a permanent stand of mine. The 32 mm objective is a bit too large for this holster and the gun wasn't as snug in it as it needed to be. Yeah if only I'd had the strap snapped in place it wouldn't have mattered anyway. But I didn't and it did matter. Now it wears a Leupold 2X and the Bushnell is on my TC SS 7-30 barrel. I have purchased 3 of these scopes and still own two of them. IMHO they are worth the money. Tasco World Class: I have only one, a 1.25 x 4 and again I like it. It sat on my old blue 7 X 30 TC barrel for years. That was my favorite barrel and saw the most use of any of my TC barrels until I sold it and bought a new one in stainless which now wears a Bushnell Trophy 2x6. Since I sold that barrel it has been on several guns and now it sits on my S&W 17 squirrel gun. It is an excellent choice in that capacity. If the cross hairs were a bit thicker and more visible early and late in the day I'd put it on my 10" 7 TCU barrel. I think it would be the best possible choice for that barrel and it may yet go on there. It hasn't failed me yet and unless/until it does I will say it is OK with me. Thompson Center Arms: I have not yet owned or used one of these scopes but they are backed by the TC guarantee. What more needs to be said? They will do for the long haul. Nikon: The ones I've seen appeared to have a rather narrow FOV to suit me. Optically they looked OK and may have been mechanically also but I can't comment on it since I've never yet owned or used one. Pentax: An old line camera manufacturer now in the rifle and handgun scope business. I have no experience with them and no opinion of them as a result. Weaver: an old name in American scopes but now made overseas. I have heard nothing but good things about the new Weavers. One now resides on my wife's Remington 541-T after I purloined her Leupold 3x9 AO Compact for my Marlin 882SS in .22 magnum. Our rifles are no longer a matching set as my Rem 541-T still wears its Leupold. The Weaver on Faye's rifle is clear as can be and seems to be a fine scope optically. It hasn't been around long enough yet to pass judgement on its mechanical strength but I've been told that too is fine. I would not be afraid to try one at a good price. Simmons: Simmons makes several different lines of scopes and probably of handgun scopes as well. JD Jones touts them as the greatest thing since sliced bread. I've owned one Simmons scope a White Tail series 4x12 AO rifle scope. I was unhappy with it. Even new the adjustable objective that was supposed to correct for parallax didn't. The field of view on those I've looked thru seem too small to suit me. They may be the toughest scope made as JD seems to believe but I haven't any personal experience with them myself. |
